Astro was the first tortoise sent into space aboard a rocket on an experimental mission. During one excursion outside of the ship, Astro was met by a colony of space tortoises who had especially dazzling shells. These distant cousins turned out to be almost identical to Earth tortoises, except that their shells had been crystalized into precious gems by cosmic rays. They helped Astro transform his own plain keratin shell into one of brilliant, colorful Opal before sending him home to share the secret with the rest of the tortoises.

This pattern makes a realistic, life-sized tortoise with a removable shell and a strawberry. The model has minimal sewing & loose ends to weave in, despite the numerous color-changes.
